SAMANTHA HARING MATERIALS LIST

  • Sketchbook and pencil for notes and preliminary thumbnails
  • At least 3 painting surfaces – two for value and color sketches, one for a final painting. I
like arches oil paper sheets, 22×30” (you can tear down two sheets into four good sized
surfaces). Canvas, panel, or your favorite substrate are all fine.
  • Oil Supplies:
o Brushes: A range of sizes (small #2-4, medium #6-8, and large #10-12) of rounds
and flats or brights, either bristle or synthetic
o Palette knife for mixing color
o Palette (glass, palette paper, or handheld is fine, as long as you have a relatively
large surface on which to mix color. 16×20 is a good minimum size for a palette)
o Gamsol in a NON-GLASS container with a lid (metal or plastic containers only in studio. AFAS will provide Gamsol for any student traveling. Please do not fly with any solvents as they are flammable)
o A brimmed hat (such as a baseball hat)
    o Rags/ paper towels
    o Painters tape
o Optional: painting medium of your choice, gloves
