The Portrait Series continues with Indirect Figure Painting. Indirect painting means you spend multiple sessions on the same painting (as opposed to direct or alla prima painting). You will learn how to successfully build a layered painting with great depth, accurate color and luminosity. The benefit of using a closed grisaille underpainting, as well as advanced topics such as glazing and scumbling will be discussed. We will focus on capturing a likeness of our model with sophisticated color and tone. Join us to gain confidence and accuracy in representing the portrait in oils!
This Portrait Series builds skills from month to month, starting with the basic fundamentals of drawing the portrait in line and working our way through to painting the portrait in oil. Working from the live model, we will continue to develop your understanding of proper proportions, structure and basic anatomy of the human head. This class will strengthen your understanding of the portrait as well as strengthen your drawing and painting ability whether you are an absolute beginner or an advanced student.
If the class size warrants, we will hire 2 models, with a maximum size of 15 students. This will ensure you are able to get close enough to the model to see.
