In this 5-day workshop, Figure Modeling: Designing the Pose, Alicia will focus on composing the figure as well as methodology for modeling the human form in clay. Emphasis is placed on designing/selecting the pose in order to explore the expressive potential of the figure. On day one, students will work from life on 20-minute clay quick sketches of various poses. At the end of the day, through group discussion, the class will choose one of these poses to develop for the remainder of the week. Throughout days 2-5, Alicia will present her 3-phase process for developing the figure. Teaching methods will include brief lectures, step-by-step demonstrations, and individual feedback. All experience levels are welcome and encouraged to join the class. The final project will be a standing figure at 24″ scale.
*Note: This workshop does not include final castings of completed works. Students are encouraged to do this independently.
