Fundamentals of Portrait Drawing: Part I
VIEW ONLY
Tuition: $100
*THIS CLASS WAS TAUGHT ONLINE IN “LIVE” SESSIONS IN MAY 2020.
Watch a preview of Part One HERE.
Learn from this recorded Online four-session course where we broke down the structure of each individual facial features to gain a better understanding of the forms and anatomy of the face. Each session I will give a slide presentation that includes historical examples, simplified construction drawings, as well as video demonstrations to help you gain a better understanding of the forms and anatomy of the face. Tips on what to look for when drawing the human head will also be discussed. We will be investigating these features in both line and value in charcoal. Homework assignments can be given. If you are interested in feedback on these assignments there is an additional $50 fee, which can be provided in a private Facebook group or via weekly email.
In Part 2 of this class, we will take this understanding and expand on it to see how each feature relates to one another and the head as a whole. This will help you gain a better likeness in your full value drawings, building on the skills learned in Part 1. Several drawing techniques to create full value drawings will be the focus in the second half of Fundamentals of Portrait Drawing – make sure you register for this half as well.
Online Classroom:
Each recorded 2 hour class includes a slide lecture, demo, and Q & A or discussion.
Homework assignments with feedback can be given for an additional $50 fee. This feedback can be provided in a private Facebook group or via weekly email. Ideally you will be using your own reflection in a mirror or a housemate as your live model. Alternatively, you could use a Master Painting as your reference. These assignments should not take longer than an hour to complete. You are encouraged to post your assignments in a private Facebook group where I will be able to give you feedback, as well as support your peers.
