Instructor: Alia El-Bermani
Working from a live nude model for the entire seven weeks, this class will begin with creating a large scale, life size charcoal drawing of our model. We will have at least two weeks to work out the drawing before we begin to paint at the same large scale. This drawing will help you create a compelling composition, as well as be a key reminder of the all important values, as we move into color on the painting. Other topics discussed in depth will include how to create a compelling narrative, using historical works as inspiration, inventing other elements within the painting either from memory, imagination or other sources and much more. Depending on the student’s ambition, these works may require time outside of the classroom so plan for how you will transport your canvas or painting panel. Large drawing boards and paper will be provided by the studio. All other materials will need to be purchased. This class is limited to just 12 students to accommodate the large scale of our drawing boards and canvases.
