KAREN OFFUTT – FIGURE PAINTING ESSENTIALS – 3 DAY WORKSHOP February 2018

Description

Karen Offutt:
Figure Painting Essentials
3 Day Workshop
February 2-4, 2018
10a – 5:30p
Whether painting a landscape, figure, portrait or still life, being able to capture a quick gesture is crucial to laying the foundation of a successful composition. This 3 day workshop will be focused on the alla prima method of figure painting.  This wet on wet approach allows for more fluid and immediate application of brushstrokes in order to get the essential information down on the canvas. Each day, while doing demos from a live model, Karen will discuss her general process of laying down shapes and using a few basic values to get started, eventually building up to a more detailed and finished painting.  Karen will then go around and assist the students as they paint from the live model.
Bio:

A native Texan, award winning, figurative artist Karen Offutt was primarily self-taught until her mid-twenties when she began to take a more formal approach to her education focusing on drawing and painting with oils at Austin Fine Arts Classes.  She has studied with some of of today’s most nationally renowned artists.  Karen is a true painter’s painter!  Her lush use of brushwork with constricted values creates an ethereal atmosphere within her figurative paintings.

Karen’s work has been featured in various publications such as Southwest Art Magazine, American Art Collector, International Artist Magazine, Artist on Art among others.  Her work has also won awards and received recognition nationally from Salon International, the Portrait Society of America, and Oil Painters of America.  Over the years her work has shown in various invitational and juried exhibitions and can currently be found in galleries such as Jack Meier Gallery in Houston, TX, Abend Gallery, Denver, CO, and the Principle Gallery in Charleston, SC.

Karen and her husband, along with their two young boys, currently live in Austin, Texas.  www.karenoffutt.com
