This Portrait Series builds month by month from fundamentals of drawing toward painting the portrait with confidence and accuracy. Though taking the full series of monthly classes in order is the most beneficial to the student, you are welcome to join this month’s class without prior experience.
While working from a live model to paint the human head, this three-week class will include all the fundamentals of oil painting. Topics covered in this introductory course will include several examples of how to start an oil painting, as well as the best painting practices to ensure your paintings will stand the test of time. Safe studio practices will be stressed as we explore various oil painting terms and techniques to mix accurate value and flesh colors. Several approaches to painting the portrait in oils will be introduced. Our discussion on accurate proportions, structure and basic anatomy will continue. This class series will strengthen your ability and understanding of the human head whether you are an absolute beginner or an advanced student.
If the class size warrants, we will hire 2 models, with a maximum size of 15 students. This will ensure you are able to get close enough to the model to see.
