HOW TO PREPARE ACM PANELS FOR OIL PAINTING
Saturday, January 18, 2025
10am -3pm
Tuition: $125
Do you want to learn how to make your own archival panels for oil painting? ACM or Aluminum Composite Material is commonly used to make commercial signs. This light weight, yet very stable material is made of 2 thin aluminum panels sandwiched on either side of a core of polyethylene. Conservators have been using this material to help in restoration of deteriorating canvases. With a little bit of preparation, you too can use these panels as a wonderful surface to paint on. Several different preparation options will be discussed. You will learn how to prepare traditional chalk gesso ground panels, the benefits of an oil ground, and how to adhere canvas or linen to acm. Each student will go home with a 9″ x 12″ panel they have prepared for themselves using acrylic dispersion ground, suitable for oil painting. All materials will be provided though a notebook and pen are recommended. We will take a one hour lunch break (which will also allow some dry time). A minimum of 8 students is required, with a class limit of 12 students.
