Aaron Westerberg:
The Designed Portrait & Figure
3 Day Workshop
June 1-3, 2018
10:00a – 5:30p
*SOLD OUT!

This three day workshop will focus on the fundamentals of picture making and direct painting. We will discuss various starting techniques, and the preliminary work involved in starting a painting. The first part of the workshop will focus on the portrait and discussion of methods and materials. The second part will focus on the figure and setting up a scene. There will be daily instructor demonstrations and critiques.

This is a great workshop for the beginner or the seasoned painter who wants to advance and refine their knowledge of color. The workshop will focus on using the limited palette of the 19th century master Anders Zorn. This is a very utilitarian palette that can be used for the figure or portrait indoors. Using a limited palette helps keep everything under control it simplifies the already complex practice of oil painting. We will learn to accurately mix and judge color temperature and value.   The workshop will begin with a lecture and a demo then the students will start their work. The instructor will assist students as they work.

Bio

Native California Aaron Westerberg grew up in San Diego.  It was a class in traditional life drawing that drew him to continue his Art training.  He studied with Jeff Watts and later attended the California Art Institute, where he taught and expanded his focus to include the works of nineteenth century American and European Masters. Aaron feels a connection to these great painters of form and light. In his paintings, he strives for elegance and timelessness while striking a balance between classic techniques and contemporary subject matter.
