MATERIALS LIST : BASICS & GRAPHITE DRAWING
● Graphite Pencils: 2H, H, HB (2B and 4B if Staidler) in any brand will do. (Faber Castell, TomBow and
Black Wing are my pencils of choice) *
● Pencil/Lead Holder: Cretacolor Wooden Holder, General’s Pencil Extender
● Sandpaper block for sharpening pencils and charcoal.*
● Utility Knife or Razor Blade*
● Cooking Skewer or thin knitting needle for measuring. Thin Wooden or metal sticks. (AFAS has plenty for you to borrow if you don’t want to travel with this)*
● Kneaded Eraser *
● Mono Zero Mechanical Eraser Round, 2.3 mm (suggested but not necessary).*
● Paper Stumps, Assorted sizes (suggested but not necessary).*
● Brush(s) for massing in: Synthetic soft bristle in one or two sizes, (I use a size six round).*
● Masking Tape
● Drawing Board
● Paper options : any size between 9”x12” to 18”x24”. Any one choice of…
o Strathmore Drawing Paper
o Arches or Stonehenge Hotpress 140 lb. Watercolor Paper
o Canson Mi Teintes pre toned paper (Preferred colors are Eggshell Grey, Flannel Grey,
Lily, Moonstone, Moon Grey, Pearl, Sky Grey, Cloud White, White)
Students may choose to work on untoned paper, buy pre toned paper, or tone their paper
before the workshop. Chelsea will be demonstrating on a sheet of Arches watercolor paper
that she has hand toned before the workshop.

Earth Pigment Pencils and Chalks
● Reds – Faber Castell Albrecht Durer Burnt Sienna or Prisma Color-erase Van Dyck Brown,
Brown or Terracotta.
● Black- Faber Castel Schwartz Black or Prisma Color-erase Black. *
● White – Generals white chalk or pastel.
Earth Pigment Pastel
● Range of Umbers, ochers, browns, black in Pan Pastel*
● Range of a few Pan Pastel sponges*
Charcoal
● General’s Charcoal Powder*
● Small assortment of Generals Charcoal Pencils*
● A Chamois, clean rag (natural or white) or Paper Towels*
Wet Media
● Gouache Paint in white, any brand*
